Your guide to make-up and cosmetics

Give your eyes more drama

Want those classic smoky eyes? First, apply foundation then set the skin with loose powder. Using your finger, pat concealer on the darker spots under your eyes. Line the top and bottom rims of your eyes with black eye pencil. Soften with a small eye shadow brush. Using a sponge-tip applicator, apply black powder eye shadow directly over the pencil. Smudge gently. Encircle your entire eye with brown eye shadow. Apply using an eye shadow brush. Color should be darker nearer the eyes and lighter farther the eyes. Curl lashes and apply mascara. Finally, apply the rest of your make-up.

Autumn Screams

After years of neutral chic, this autumn screams sophistication with a capital S, with strong shades of pink, gold, grey, black, plum and red, and sophisticated beauty mixed with a rock’n'roll feel.
Dark, captivating and mysterious, black is this season’s colour.

Smoky eyes combined with a flawless complexion and shiny lips create a sophisticated rock look.
Dramatic black is powerfully glam, and though easy to use it does precise application and some carefully chosen shades of grey to soften it. Bring out your dark side!

This year, the focus is on darker shades of red than classic lippy shades: aubergine, cherry, crimson and copper, and at the other end of the colour spectrum, candy pink is also in.

Textures are swinging between ulta matte and super shiny. The only rule is whichever you go for, don’t do it by halves! And make sure your application technique is up to scratch as these bold colours don’t leave much room for error…

Base for eye make-up

The best base for eye make-up is a no-color eye shadow. Apply this on especially if you plan to go for dramatic eye color such as the smoky eye effect. No-color eye shadow is basically eye make up that comes in a soft creamy shade that is a tone slightly lighter than your skin. You highlight your lids with this up to your brow bone. This sets whatever shadow or liner you apply next. Not only that, it also balances the dark color and evens it out on your skin.
