Your guide to make-up and cosmetics

Skinny Out, Bushy In

The skinny eye brows are out. So let those brows of yours grow back and time to make them in. Thick, naturally bushy or penciled-in eye brows are in nowadays. Read on to have your brows back in season. Tweezing stray brows, then brushing and creating some accent on your brows by using a darker shade of brow pencil is one way to create that eyebrow the “in” look. Fill in the spaces with a small pinch of brow wax, cream based product or gel. Keep in mind to follow your eyebrow’s natural arch. Super defined eyebrows highlight the eyes.

Base for eye make-up

The best base for eye make-up is a no-color eye shadow. Apply this on especially if you plan to go for dramatic eye color such as the smoky eye effect. No-color eye shadow is basically eye make up that comes in a soft creamy shade that is a tone slightly lighter than your skin. You highlight your lids with this up to your brow bone. This sets whatever shadow or liner you apply next. Not only that, it also balances the dark color and evens it out on your skin.

How to apply blusher

This is a bit trickier, as there are lots of “schools” on how to apply your favorite blush-on. The worst you can do is to look like a china doll, or have a sun-burnt look. Anyway, this is the tip that I adhere to anyway. Determine where the bottom of your cheekbone is. Apply your blusher on that particular area in very light, circular motions. The idea here is to dust your cheeks with some color, making it look as natural as possible. Use a large soft brush for this. Take note that you apply at the exact bottom of your cheekbone and not below. Be careful also not to go beyond the center of your eyes.

Applying concealer

After perfectly applying your liquid make-up foundation (see previous post), you then put on a bit of concealer. Like the liquid foundation, it can be applied by using your fingers, dabbing tiny dots under the eyes and wherever needed to hide blemishes and uneven skin tone. You may also apply the concealer using the tips of a thin sponge or a small brush. Blend with the foundation by patting very gently on the concealer until tone is even with the rest of the skin.

Applying liquid foundation

The best way to work your liquid foundation onto your face is to first, dab spots on your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Work on one area of your face at a time using your fingers, moving with light and quick circular motions. For example, you may start from the forehead and work down to one side of your face. Now do the other side, using the same motions. Aside from your fingers, you may also blend the foundation downwards to your neck and chest and outwards from the face with a make-up sponge to even out the tone.

Kissable Lips

To have an easy and yet elegant evening effect on your lips, get a rich, latte-colored lip look. And to obtain a rich, latte-colored lip look, make a gorgeous, velvety pout with your lips by applying brownish or ruby-red slip stick colors that will make your lips look lush and glossy. Lining up the lips by having a lip liner first before filling up the whole lip will make it easier and will make it look better. When applying your lipstick, blot it with tissue afterwards. Then again, apply your lipstick to make sure that your lip hue stays put.

Cheek-hues

Cheek-hues are quite popular with the younger crowd as they are not fussy and they look natural on skin as they merely “tint” the cheeks. I may not be in my teens but I use cheek-hues for no-nonsense day-to-day wear. I want to look good all the time so even if I were to go out on simple errands such as taking the dog out for a walk, or if I drive myself off to the grocery, I dab my cheeks with cheek-hue and swipe my lips with gloss and voila – a fresh, no-fuss, youthful look!
